12. Skills and tools

The Skills page lets visitors browse the products, systems, and methods I use, alongside the roles where I have applied them. Here I explain how those tools support my work across investigation, writing, and documentation systems.

12.1 Capabilities supported by examples

I research product behavior, plan help changes, write and review DITA/XML topics, prepare screenshots and video guidance, and check rendered WebHelp/HTML5 output. Oxygen, Git, Jira, Camtasia, and CSS support different parts of that process. The writing chapter shows how the work moves from research to guidance readers can follow.

In support roles, I combined system administration, enterprise mobility, customer troubleshooting, log and database investigation, identity integration, server maintenance, and escalation support. Product expertise connects those capabilities to the device platforms and products I worked with.

As a senior writer, I have extended the work into transformations, migration, rendered review, publishing configuration, validation inventories, AI-assisted development, and cross-system integration. The Projects page shows how these methods address specific authoring and quality problems.

12.2 Tools across systems support and content

Area Tools How I use them
Networking TCP/IP, VPN, DHCP, DNS, SMTP, WINS, FTP, Ethernet Investigate connectivity and mail flow, drawing on network-systems training and service-desk work
Support and work tracking Salesforce, Jira, SOTI MobiControl Research cases, escalate defects, support device-management environments, and track documentation work
Systems and platforms GitHub, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Server, Oracle Database Server, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) Work with source history, identity and mail administration, basic database setup and commands, and Windows configuration management
Structured content XML/DITA Author, review, transform, and validate structured help topics
Office and cloud Microsoft Office, AWS/Azure Cloud Solutions Prepare team material and reporting; investigate hosted customer environments and cloud-platform behavior
Images and media ShareX, GIMP, Camtasia, Adobe Photoshop Prepare and edit visuals or instructional media for technical content
Web and service practice HTML5/CSS, ITIL Foundations Shape online-help presentation and apply service-management principles in support work

My Oracle work covers basic database setup and commands alongside database-backed support investigations. I have also worked with SCCM for Windows configuration-management tasks, including device settings and software deployment.

12.3 AI and engineering in practice

AI tools have become central to how I build and improve documentation systems. I use ChatGPT to assist with drafting and review. With Codex, I developed repeatable workflows that connect Jira and design research to DITA authoring, source checks, and peer review. I used Claude for migration-related development and adapted reusable skills for both Codex and Claude. The AI workflow chapter explains how I assess generated content before a writer uses it.

I have built task-focused agents with Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Studio, and automation flows with Power Automate. These workflows can respond to email or new worksheet and tracker entries, update records, and send notifications. I have also investigated Open Web UI for AI integrations and local workflow design.

Python and PowerShell help me inspect repositories, build utilities, and automate repeatable checks. I have worked with DITA-OT, Ant, and XSLT questions when investigating transformations, and with Umbraco, Pulse, and IIS when checking how structured content becomes reliable online help.

Jira and Figma provide feature and design context. Git/GitHub Enterprise preserves change history and review decisions. I have also explored Excel/Jira Data Center data and Aha exports for team reporting. These tools serve different parts of the same process: understand the product change, create guidance, verify the result, and make the method reusable.
